I was born and live in Perth. I was educated in Edinburgh where I studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art. I then completed a post- graduate teacher- training course at Moray House College of Education, after which I taught Art and Design at a secondary school near to Edinburgh.

After marrying and a move to London where my husband worked, I continued to teach until my two children were born. During the early years of family life I gradually devoted more time to painting and I began to exhibit my work. I developed an interest in Batik-Painting which I taught in adult education in Greenwich. I have exhibited Batik-Paintings in London, the R.S.A in Edinburgh and Perthshire.

We moved to Perth in the 1980’s. As the family grew up I taught part-time in adult education for a time and I took up a teaching post at a school in Perth where I taught for ten happy years. I became a member of the Perthshire Art Association and was President and Vice President for three years and then president for another three years.

I paint mainly in my home and garden where I am continually inspired by the flowers and the organic forms in the changing seasons. I have a particular interest in colour and light and I wish to convey with layers of transparent and translucent paint an emotional response to images “first seen” in my surroundings. I often use glimpses of colour, windows, doorways, sunlight and reflections as starting-points, often in our Victorian greenhouse where I propagate plants for the garden. I sometimes walk down to the allotments near to where we live, and draw there, Summer and Winter.

I make regular trips to paint in Perthshire and to Ullapool, Orkney and the East Coast. I enjoy the excitement of changing weather conditions on the Scottish landscape, rock formations and fishing boats in harbours. I paint directly from the subject with Watercolour, Mixed Media and Collage are used to create paintings where colour and light play an important part. The choice of materials plays an important part of expressing an emotional response to what I see and feel.
